Ranji Trophy Round 7, Day 2: Jharkhand's Jaggi scores double-ton, Baroda in control against Karnataka

Ishank Jaggi scored an unbeaten double-century to help Jharkhand declare their first innings at 556 for nine while at three venues, persistent rain washed out the entire day's play.
Here's a round-up of the second day's play of the Ranji Trophy 2014-15 matches being played across various venues .

Group A

Karnataka vs Baroda, Mysore
Baroda enjoyed the upper hand throughout the day with regular strikes as Karnataka were limited to 235 for 6 at close of play, despite being bowled out for 335 earlier after adding just 15 more runs to their overnight score. KL Rahul stroked his way to a fluent 89 off 160 balls laced with ten fours and a six. Medium-pacer Sagar Mangalorkar picked up two wickets up front and was ably supported by Irfan Pathan and Gagandeep, who kept a leash on Karnataka's scoring-rate.
Brief Scores: Baroda 335 (Deepak Hooda 142; Abhimanyu Mithun 4 for 81) lead Karnataka 235 for 6 (KL Rahul 89; Sagar Mangalorkar 2 for 51) by 100 runs.

Railways vs Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi
The second day's play between Railways and Jammu and Kashmir was called off without a ball being bowled due to persistent rains in the capital. Put into bat, Railways were 50/1 in 23 overs on the opening day.
Brief scores: Railways 50/1 (Nitin Bhille 22 not out, Rohan Bhosale 24 not out).

Uttar Pradesh vs Bengal, Ghaziabad
No play was possible between Uttar Pradesh and Bengal on the second day due to rain.
Brief Scores: Bengal 151/4 (S Chatterjee 60, Saha 45*, Kuldeep Yadav 2/58) vs Uttar Pradesh

Mumbai vs Tamil Nadu, Chennai
Tamil Nadu are set for another facile victory as 40-time Ranji Trophy Champions Mumbai's chances of knock-out qualifications are likely to end with another shoddy performance. After bowling out Mumbai for a paltry 141 in the first innings, Tamil Nadu posted a healthy 417 in their first innings with help of Baba Indrajith's maiden first-class ton.
Indrajith 101 as Tamil Nadu took a huge 276 runs first innings lead. At stumps, Mumbai were 12 for one needing another 264 runs to avoid innings defeat.
Brief Scores: Mumbai 141 and 12/1 trail Tamil Nadu 417 (Baba Indrajith 101, Vijay Shankar 95) by 264 runs.

Group B

Maharashtra vs Delhi, Pune
Gautam Gambhir (93) and Virender Sehwag (66) produced a 102-run partnership as Delhi reached 240/4 at stumps in reply to Maharashtra's first innings score of 330 all out. Opening the innings, Gambhir cracked seven boundaries and one six in his unbeaten 217-ball innings, while Sehwag hit seven fours in his 88-ball stay to anchor the Delhi innings after they were reduced to 41/2 in the 19th over. At stumps, Rajat Bhatia (43) was giving company to Gambhir.
Brief Score: Delhi 240/4 (Gautam Gambhir 93 not out; Samad Fallah 1/50) trail Maharashtra 330 all out in 98.1 overs (SM Gugale 174, C G Khurana 55; S Narwal 3/37) by 90 runs.

Saurashtra vs Haryana, Rajkot
Offspinner Kamlesh Makvana bagged six wickets to give Saurashtra the advantage against Haryana. Resuming on their overnight score of 74 for three, the Sunny Singh-led Haryana slipped to 98 for five before a 93-run sixth-wicket partnership between Jayant Yadav (97) and wicketkeeper-batsman Nitin Saini (45) brought some respectability to their innings.
But Makvana (6/87), who sent both Jayant and Saini back to the pavilion, and left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja (4-80), combined well to bowl Haryana out for 226, taking a slender lead of 12 runs. In their second dig, Saurashtra finished the day on 162 for three, stretching their second-innings lead to 174.
Brief Scores: Saurashtra 238 and 162/3 (Sheldon Jackson 56 not out, Jaydev Shah 55 not out; Harshal Patel 1-27) lead Harayana 226 all out (Rahul Dewan 47; Jayant Yadav 97, Nitin Saini 45; Kamlesh Makvana 6/87) by 174 runs.

Vidarbha vs Gujarat, Surat
Vidarbha offspinner Akshay Wakhare ran through Gujarat's middle order as he picked 6/92 to bowl them out for 248. However, he couldn't prevent them from taking a marginal but important first innings lead of 12 runs. At one stage, Gujarat were in danger of being bowled out for under 200 Wakhare dimissed Ramesh Powar for nine with the scorecard reading 158/7.
However, Manpreet Juneja (75) and Rush Kalaria combined for a 65-run stand for the eighth wicket taking them nearer to Vidharbha's first innings score of 236. Vidharbha lost the wicket of opener Sachin Katariya early on as Kalaria trapped him in front for four. Faiz Fazal (20*) and Ganesh Satish (11*) saw through the remaining overs to take them to 39/1 at stumps.
Brief Scores: Vidarbha 236 and 39/1 lead Gujarat 248 (Manpreet Juneja 75, Akshay Wakhare 6/92) by 27 runs.

Odisha vs Rajasthan, Balangir
Deepak Chahar shone with both bat and ball, scoring an unbeaten fifty before snapping three wickets to help Rajasthan reduce Odisha to 144/9. Resuming their first innings at 191/5, Rajasthan rode on a 57-run unbeaten innings by lower-order batsman Chahar to be bowled out for 305 in 115.3 overs.
Chahar (3/30) then combined with fellow pacer Pankaj Singh (4/47) to share seven wickets between them and take Rajasthan within touching distance of grabbing the crucial first innings lead.
Brief Score: Odisha 144/9 (A R Sarangi 47; Pankaj 4/47, DL Chahar 3/30) trail Rajasthan 305 all out (V S Saxena 106, DL Chahar 57 not out; B Mohanty 4/68) by 161 runs.

Group C
Himachal Pradesh vs Andhra, Dharamsala
Rain washed out the second day's play between Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The play on the opening day was also affected due to bad weather as only 34 overs were bowled in which Andhra, after being asked to bat, scored 123/4.
Brief Scores: Andhra Pradesh 123/2 (Srikar Bharat 47, Murumulla Sriram 45 batting, Rishi Dhawan 2/40) vs Himachal Pradesh.

Goa vs Assam, Goa
Gokul Sharma scored half-century to take Assam to 243/5 at the close of play, helping them take an important 68-run lead over Goa. Resuming their innings at 69/1, Assam crawled at snail's pace to add 174 runs in 92.4 overs with Gokul scoring 53 off 169 deliveries at Goa Cricket Association Academy Ground. The visitors lost opener Pallavkumar Das (44) in the sixth over of the day, but Sibsankar Roy (28 off 123 balls) and Gokul added 80 runs kept the bowlers at bay.
Both the batsmen were dismissed within the space of 13 balls. An unbeaten 45-run stand between Tarjinder Singh (39*) and Jamaluddin Syed Mohammad (25*) helped Assam finish the day without further damage.
Brief Scores: Assam 243 for 5 (Gokul Sharma 53; Darshan Misal 2/31) lead Goa 175 by 68 runs.

Jharkhand vs Hyderabad, Ranchi
Ishank Jaggi scored an unbeaten double-century to help Jharkhand declare their first innings at 556 for nine before reducing the Hyderabad to 55 for one on the second day. Resuming their innings at 295 for four, Jharkhand rode on Jaggi's 342-ball 201 to post mammoth total.
In reply, Hyderabad lost opener Tanmay Agarwal early in the second over with the scorecard reading seven. However, Akshath Reddy (20) and Hanuma Vihari (23) helped them recover from the blow as the visitors closed the day at 55/1.
Brief Scores: Hyderabad 55/1 (Hanuma Vihari 23 batting, Varun Aaron 1/22) trail Jharkhand 556/9d (Ishank Jaggi 201*, Saurabh Tiwary 100; Akash Bhandari 4/136, Ashish Reddy 3/45) by 501 runs.

Tripuara vs Kerala, Agartala
Abhishek Hegde and Sanju Samson batted cautiously during their 81-run unbroken stand as Kerala reached 96 for one chasing Tripura's paltry first innings score of 179.Starting the second day's play at 127 for six, Tripura were all out for 179 in 88.1 overs. Pacers Sandeep Warrier (4/45) and Nizar Niyas (3/39) shared seven wickets between them while opener Bishal Ghosh top-scored with 78.
At stumps, Hegde was batting on 52 while Samson was unbeaten on 40. Kerala still require 84 runs to surpass Tripura's first innings total.
Brief Scores: Kerala 96/1 (Abhishek Hegde 53 batting, Sanju Samson 40 batting) trail Tripura 179 (Bishal Ghosh 78, Sandeep warrier 4/45, Nizar Niyas 3/39) by 84 runs.
