Shane Bond has been appointed as bowling coach of Mumbai Indians
Shane Bond, the former New Zealand fast bowler, was appointed as bowling coach of Mumbai Indians (MI) for the 2015 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 39-year-old Bond, who is currently the bowling coach of the New Zealand team, will join Ricky Ponting (head coach), Jonty Rhodes (fielding coach) and Robin Singh (batting coach) as part of the Mumbai team's support staff.
Bond's appointment with Mumbai Indians came on the day when he announced his decision to step down as bowling coach of New Zealand after the ICC World Cup 2015. His contract ends at the completion of the tournament and he decided against seeking an extension.
While this will be his first stint as bowling coach of a franchise, Bond is no stranger to the IPL, having played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2010 season. He had also served as assistant coach of the Central Stags team.
Speaking about his appointment, Bond said: "Its' my privilege to be associated with the most highly regarded franchise in IPL. I look forward to bring in my cricketing experience to work along with Ricky (Ponting) and the team."
