Michael Clarke to undergo surgery on 16th December

Michael Clarke had to be helped off the field by Alex Kountouris after suffering a hamstring injury on Day 5 of the Adelaide Test.
Michael Clarke, who picked up a hamstring injury during the first Test against India in Adelaide, has suffered "substantial damage to the key part of his hamstring tendon" and will undergo a surgery on Tuesday, 16th December 2015.
Peter Brukner, Australia's team doctor, said Clarke's injured right hamstring required a surgery as the damage was extensive. In a statement released by Cricket Australia (CA), Brukner was quoted as saying: "Michael was assessed by a surgeon in Melbourne early this evening (Monday) and will be undergoing surgery tomorrow to repair his injured right hamstring. Whilst surgery is not always required with hamstring injuries, Michael has substantial damage to a key part of the hamstring tendon and it was felt the best course of action was to surgically repair the damaged area," he added.
Regarding Clarke's possible return to cricket following the surgery, Brukner did not specify any time-frame. "His recovery and the timing of his return to play will be dependent on the surgeon's advice and how well he recovers in the coming weeks."
Constantly hampered by injuries, Clarke, who was ruled out the remainder of the Test series, had also suffered a back injury in the opening Test and had mentioned that he may never play again. Forced to take a break, Clarke was replaced by Steve Smith, who is set to become Australia's 45th Test skipper when he leads the hosts in the second Test that starts on 17th December in Brisbane.
